2016HandwovenChallenge

Handwoven Magazine’s 2016 Handwoven for the
Home Challenge
Handwoven Magazine Juried Contest
 Attention All Weavers!

About the Challenge:

Handwoven is pleased to invite you to enter our 2016 weaving challenge “Handwoven Celebrations.” This is a juried competition. There will be some great prizes, and the winning items will also appear as projects in the September/October 2016 issue of Handwoven—so they must be projects for which you can provide a draft and detailed instructions for both the weaving and any sewing needed.

We’re looking for all sorts of celebratory textiles, from decorative wall hangings to household linens and wearable items—just be sure to let us know why your entry fits our theme. You can team up with a friend if you’d like, and you can also submit more than one piece for consideration. Get your looms warped and your designing minds engaged to create your ideal piece of weaving for the home!

Weavers should also look at this palette and design their projects around it. Not all the colors need to be incorporated in the project, nor does the project need to only contain these colors, but the palette should be used as a guide for choosing colors of yarn.

All projects must include an artist’s statement about the project and why it fits the theme of Handwoven Celebrations.

On January 16, the links will be up for you to start entering your projects.

Please fill out the form below and upload three digital images of the project, including one close-up of the cloth. You will also need to fill out a Project at a Glance Form and then email it to Handwoven@interweave.com with the subject line “Handwoven for the Home.” If you prefer, you can also download and print the Project at a Glance worksheet and mail it, along with three photographs, to Handwoven Contest, 4868 Innovation Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80525.

The Project at a Glance form MUST contain all the information needed to weave the item exactly including drafts, color order for warp and weft (if applicable), and a list of easily available yarns.

Tips for Photographing Projects:
Use a neutral background when photographing your project.
Make sure the project is well lit—natural light is often the best light to use for photography.
Make sure the project is the focus of each photo (and that the photo is in focus).
Garments should be photographed on dress forms or on models if possible.
Make sure the photos are in focus.

The first day to enter is January 16, 2016. All entries, both electronic and mailed must be received by midnight MDT March 20, 2016. There is no limit to the number of entries, but please submit one entry form per piece. Please send any questions to

handwoven@interweave.com
